This was exactly what I needed for sifting out cocoons from my compost worm breeder bins. The size is perfect for catching cocoons that go through 1/8" screens. I’ve been using a 1/20" hole size screen made for mining that fits on a 5-gallon bucket, but it takes forever when I have two large bins to screen weekly. I use 1/4" & 1/8" hardware cloth to catch the worms, leftover bedding, and larger cocoons, but haven’t found a mesh large enough with the ideal hole size for my 20"x14" frames until now. The price seems a bit high compared to hardware cloth, but it's reasonable given the difficulty in finding this size. Plus, there are two large pieces, so I can create separate boxes for each worm species without needing to wash them between uses.

It was very easy to apply to the frame, especially since it was shipped flat, making the process much simpler. The worms love eating the cardboard box, reducing waste. Because it was shipped flat, the mesh mostly stayed aligned when stapling, unlike unrolled mesh that often shifts out of alignment and never lays completely flat without special machinery. My frame was pre-made, so all I needed to do was cut the mesh 1" larger than the frame, fold it using pliers and a metal straight edge, and staple it down. There was minimal fraying, unlike another screen I tried that fit poorly due to frayed edges, causing it to be too small. The folded edge contains the fraying and alleviates strain on the cut edge, promising longevity for many years of hard use. So far, my other screens have lasted over three years with little wear. I expect this one to last even longer as it's crafted from superior wire.

The wire itself is smooth, so when I found a baby worm stuck in the mesh, a gentle flick with a soft-bristle brush was enough to dislodge it without harm. I plan to keep the scraps to use as a guard on an outside vent currently fitted with a flimsy screen with larger holes. This will definitely perform better and keep out larger insects like wasps seeking nesting spots. I highly recommend this mesh for others needing to screen worm cocoons, fine compost, or other types of fine sifting. The key is maintaining the material at 40-50% moisture to pass through easily without drying out, which could harm worms, cocoons, or microbial life. Thanks for a great product! I might buy more if I decide to sell my sifters, depending on demand. I will definitely spread the word about this product in a worm forum I'm part of, as it’s unlikely they will find anything similar for less.
