What is 3 Crank Hospital Bed

3 Crank Hospital Bed Defination

A 3-crank hospital bed is a type of adjustable bed that allows for manual control over three main functions: the backrest, the knee section, and the overall height of the bed. These adjustments are made possible through the use of manual cranks, which enable precise positioning of the bed to meet the patient's needs.

How does the hospital bed adjustment function achievement?

Hospital bed adjustment functions by using three independent pneumatic components located beneath the bed frame. These components control the back, knee, and height adjustments. A crank, situated at the foot of the bed, is used by the caregiver to control these pneumatic components. Rotating the crank causes the chosen section (back, knee, or overall height) of the bed to raise or lower. For easier setup and transport, the head and foot boards of the bed are designed to be detachable.

Operating a 3-crank hospital bed is straightforward:

The bed has three cranks located beneath the footboard: the left crank controls the backrest, the middle crank adjusts the bed's height, and the right crank manages the knee section.

To raise any part of the bed, simply turn the corresponding crank clockwise. Conversely, to lower that section, turn the crank counterclockwise. For instance, turning the right crank clockwise will elevate the knee area, while turning it counterclockwise will lower it.

Is the hospital bed heavy duty loading design?

This hospital bed is designed for heavy-duty use. The standard model has a weight capacity of 250kg (551 lbs). However, for patients requiring a higher weight limit, customized bariatric versions are available, supporting up to 350kg (772 lbs) . These reinforced beds utilize thicker steel pipes in the supporting legs to ensure the safety and stability of heavier patients.

Flower/Contour Position Available

Manual hospital beds are significantly more affordable than their electric counterparts. All adjustments, including back, knee, and height, are made manually by operating the bed's crank. Unlike electric beds, which often feature one-button automated positioning (like 'auto contour' or 'flower position'), a 3-crank manual bed requires separate adjustments for the back and knee sections to achieve the desired comfort level.

Two Stylish Models Design Options

Anyant Top Medical is a Chinese company that specializes in manufacturing manual hospital beds. They offer two popular models of 3-crank hospital beds, which differ mainly in their side rails and castor components, giving customers a choice between two stylish options.

  • Side rails types options

There is fixed full length aluminium alloy, and tuck away/concealed ABS board options to choose according the hospital request.

  • Castors Design:  Central and Single locking options.

Castors designed with durability and mobility in mind. Each castor is engineered to support the weight and movement of the bed smoothly across hospital floors.

  1. Central Locking Paddle: The castors come with a central locking system operated by a paddle. This design ensures that when engaged, all castors lock simultaneously, providing stability and safety to the bed. This is crucial during patient transfers, medical procedures, or when the bed needs to remain stationary for any reason. The central locking mechanism is user-friendly, allowing medical staff to secure the bed with a simple step on the paddle, thereby preventing unwanted movement.
  2. Single Locker on Each Castor: Additionally, each castor is equipped with its own individual locking mechanism option. This feature provides an extra layer of security and control, allowing each wheel to be locked or unlocked independently. This can be particularly useful in situations where partial mobility is desired or when aligning the bed in tight spaces where not all wheels need to be locked.

What is a 3 crank hospital bed? - Medik Medical

First of all, 3 crank hospital bed is a manual bed, it is operated by the crank to drive the movement of the bed to get various positions for patient's comfort or clinical need.

There are 3 cranks installed under frame near the bed foot panel, the articulated bed surface will move to have fowler or semi fowler positions by rotating the crank.

Normally, one crank is to move the back section from 0~75 degree, second crank is to move the foot section from 0~40 degree, while the third crank is to drive the height of the bed to different heights.

However, the third crank can also be designed to operate the bed trendelenburg or reverse trendelenburg instead of height adjustment.
