Its structure features hydraulic mechanical stepless transmission, allowing for easy and smooth operation across a wide speed range. It is capable of lifting heavy loads and measuring deep wells, with electrical components that can be configured as explosion-proof or non-explosion-proof based on user requirements. The winch includes a counter to display measured depth, ensuring the safety and reliability of well-measuring equipment. Currently, its maximum logging depth reaches up to 12000 meters, making it superior to similar products domestically and internationally—ideal for oilfield logging.

Offshore Log: Winch Maintenance - Do It Now, Not Later

Maintenance aboard a cruising boat is never-ending. Preparation for offshore racing has instilled a commitment to constant checking, cleaning, and lubrication, which is crucial for preventing component failure. When short-handed cruising, such failures can be particularly dangerous.

In Venezuela, rigorous maintenance included cosmetic issues and serious work like overhauling deck winches. Following the Navy saying, "if it moves, grease it; if it’s wood, varnish it," we meticulously cleaned and maintained our equipment.

Modern sailboat hardware is relatively trouble-free, but neglect can lead to issues. Horizontal mast-mounted winches can trap water and salt, leading to corrosion. We discovered this when dismantling a reefing winch full of salt. Removing winches from the mast allowed us to check for corrosion and ensure proper isolation between bronze base castings and the mast, using Mylar sheets.

Dealing with stuck stainless steel fastenings in aluminum masts can be challenging. Use penetrating oil and a large screwdriver, reserving heat as a last resort. We successfully removed and cleaned our winches, re-greasing them with anti-corrosion locking compound and polishing chrome drums to extend their finish.

Stocking up on spares kits for obsolete winches is cost-effective, as spares are cheaper than new winches. Having multiple overhaul kits for each winch ensures longevity.

Lewmar Superlock: Works Great, Looks Poor

Our boat features various line clutches. While our Lewmar Superlocks are excellent functionally, their cast aluminum handles deteriorate visually over time. We replaced chipping handles and maintained the internal components for optimal performance.

Chipped handles remain functional but look unsightly.
