Lunker Joined: Posts: 20,043Likes: 1 Is it true that no more than 1 CFM should go through a two stone diffuser 'T' and AT LEAST 1 CFM is required for best performance (maxium 3 CFM's) for the membrance diffusers?

Field CorrespondentLunker Joined: Posts: 15,401Likes: CB1 My brain is still on duty for today. It all depends. CFM ratings for stones are usually based on the size/length of the stones. A stone of 6" often has a CFM rating of around 0.5 and 9" stone 0.75 CFM. I think if you force more air through the stone the bubbles will get bigger and stone does not operate optiminally.

Membrane diffusers have different CFM ratings based on type of membrane and size of slits/openings. Forcing more air through membrane's slits causes the bubbles to get bigger and you lose some efficiency.

The minimum cfm for our diffusers are .5 per disc so depending on what 'AirStation' (2 or 4 disc) you would need a minimum of 1 or 2 cfm. The max is around 1.25 per disc. Most other membrane discs have larger slits requiring more cfm.
