Is there a difference between microfiber cloths?
Is there a difference between microfiber cloths?
Microfiber used for cleaning should be less than 1 denier or decitex per thread. The type of denier for these microfiber cloths is an important feature to understand the quality thickness and best cleaning performance for the products durability. High-quality microfiber used for cleaning should be smaller than 0.5 denier. The yarn used for our SmartChoice Cloths is 160D/72F and after splitting, DPF will be 160/72/9=0.25 denier. This is the finest split available in the microfiber cloth market.
Jiuyuan supply professional and honest service.
How can you tell that your cloth is less than 1 denier thick?
You really cant with the human eye. Its a question you have to ask your distributor.
Research shows that the quality of the microfiber comes down to the number of splits. The splitting process breaks down each fiber into a very thin strand, estimated to be 1/16 the size of a single human hair.
How do you determine if a cloth has been split?
Rub the palm of your hand across the cloth. If it catches slightly on the surface of your hand, it has been made with split yarns. Another way to tell is to push a water spill with it. A microfiber cloth that has been split will absorb the water, not push it.
You should be mindful, that a thick, fluffy microfiber towel with a little bit of nap on it may feel softer and appear to be a better product, but it is not. Better microfiber cloths are actually tighter and more tightly woven, which makes them feel stiffer.
Test the cloth by holding it up to the sunlight, stretch the cloth, and if it is a tight weave and you dont see a lot of sunlight, its a high-quality cloth. If it stretches easily and you see a lot of light, it is not a high-quality cloth.
Our SmartChoice cloths are a great example of a high-quality cleaning cloth. While different microfiber cloths may appear similar at first, compare the quality yourself.
How will I know that a microfiber cloth is of good quality?
There are tests you can perform to see the quality of the cloth you buy. One test is to rub hand lotion on a mirror. Look at the number of passes it takes to remove the lotion the SmartChoice cloth will do it in only one or two passes.
No matter the thickness of the cloth, there are a couple of things you should look for in microfiber cleaning cloths.
There are many sizes of microfiber cloth, which one is right for me?
A microfiber cloth should be large enough to be folded four times to complete the job. This allows for cleaning several different surfaces by unfolding and re-folding the towel with the clean side exposed.
How can I tell that a microfiber cloth will last a long time?
Heat sealing around the perimeter of the cloth is another valuable feature since it helps the fabric withstand multiple washings.
Recently automated machines have taken over to cut and sew the cloth hems. While quicker, they do not heat seal the edges, which shortens the life of the cloth. Read More.
Microfibers towel. What's the difference between them? What ...

Contour Microfiber Training Towel by Beta-Simplicity.
Compared to cotton, microfiber is quick drying, super absorbent and lightweight. There is a growing variety of microfiber towel in the market and their characteristics may be different. The price also varies greatly with a higher end towel costing three to four times greater than a lower end towel. What makes this price difference and how do you select the best for your intended usage? There are three major consideration when it comes to the characteristics and cost of the microfiber towel. They are, its composition, fabric type and weight.
If you are looking for more details, kindly visit how to know if a towel is microfiber.
Microfibers are technically fibers has diameter in the tenth to hundredth of millimeters. Any material that can be stretched to that small diameter can be called microfibers. For microfiber towel, the most commonly used materials are polyester and polyamide (Nylon). Polyester weigh less than polyamide, is less absorbent and have a more synthetic touch to it. However, polyamide dries slower than polyester as it has a greater water retention characteristic. For towel, the microfibers used are usually made out of 100% polyester or a mixture of polyamide and polyester. The table below gives a summary of their characteristic
Polyester Polyamide (Nylon) Light weight Heavy Synthetic touch Soft touch Poor water absorption Good water absorption Dry quickly Dry slower Wipes easily on skin Tends to "stick" to skin Less expensive More expensive
While the composition of the microfiber has a significant influence on its properties, another contributing factor is the fabric type which is typically either suede or terry cloth. Terry cloth is similar to cotton in terms of touch which makes it more comfortable compared to suede. However, it dries slower than suede as it is generally heavier and the fiber piles that gives it volume. Compared to cotton or equivalent weight, microfiber terry cloth generally dries faster. Suede and terry cloth have their unique characteristics and whether one is better than the other depends on what you are looking for.
Terry microfiber cloth
Suede microfiber cloth
Terry Cloth Suede Heavier Light weight Fast water absorption Slower water absorption Slower drying Quick drying Thicker Thinner Soft touch Leathery feel Sticks less to wet skin Sticks to wet skin Stretchable Non-stretchable Water absorption rate between terry towel and suede towel
The weight of the towel will affect its performance. In general, a heavier towel will absorb more water than a lighter towel. A terry towel may be smaller in size than a suede towel but may absorb more water since it packs more material in a smaller area. For terry towel, the touch of a heavier towel has a more luxurious feel than a lighter towel on top of its better water absorbency. However, a heavier towel is not always better since it also dries slower.
Heavy Light weight Absorbs more water Absorbs less water Nice touch "Cheap" touch Dries slower Dries faster Higher cost Lower cost
Given all these considerations, how do we choose one that is best suited for our purpose? While you will have your preference, below is my mine,
Purpose Characteristic Selection Outdoors and Travel Important.Lightweight, quick drying, occupies small space, relatively good water absorbency
Less important.
Nice touch, stretchability Suede, polyester/polyamide blend, light to medium weight. Gym or sports towel Important.
Nice touch, good water absorbency, stretchable
Less important
Lightweight, occupies small space, quick drying Terry cloth, polyester/polyamide, medium to heavy weight.
How about other added on features like anti-bacterial or anti-odour treatment? Most of these properties come from added silver ions or particles. Silver ions will have anti-bacterial effect however, as with most treatments, the silver ions will gradually be lost with each washing and so is its effect. Further, silver ions will not get rid of any dirt or skin flakes that the microfiber picks from the bench or from your body. Therefore, it is still advisable to wash your towel for hygiene purpose.

Asian fit glasses. What does it mean? How would it benefit you and stop your glasses from slipping?
12 February
After wearing your glasses daily for months or years, and one day, when you removed your glasses and use contact lens instead, you tried to adjust the glasses that is not even there. This is the most common action related to the phantom glasses syndrome.
26 July
When your glasses is hurting your ears, it is due to excessive pressure on them. The pain may be at the top of your ears or at the back. As the ear is made of soft cartilage, it is sensitive to pressure. It is difficult to get the adjustment right on the first attempt as the optician needs to make sure that the glasses also do not slip.
