Bamboo is harvested almost all over the world. In the various Asian region, bamboo is almost available in every part. Its harvesting provides job opportunities to many people, due to the properties of its various species have demand in construction, technology has increased a lot. In modern trend demand for handcrafted art and natural artefact increased. To fulfil the increased demand for bamboo, cutting the operation of bamboo must be paced up. In traditional harvesting processes which are carried out manually take more time, labour work and also provide damage to surrounding undergrown bamboos. To overcome this and to minimize stresses on workers, an attempt has been made to design a bamboo cluster cutting machine, which is simple in design and can be handled by the common man. The demand for a bamboo cutting machine is higher and it is time to respond to the problem aroused.

Designing and Manufacturing of Bamboo Processing MachineIJAERS Journal
This document describes about designing and manufacturing of bamboo processing machine having three functions, namely; splitting, grinding and sanding bamboo surfaces. It helps to avoid a tedious and time taking manual bamboo processing. Three people can work at the same time when a need arise. It is designed considering safety factors and ergonomic considerations. The machine is robust in design having low sound, and good aesthetic so as to look attractive and durable while giving service. Designing and fabricating such type of machine is important so as to save money and it avoids from buying individual machine. For the purpose of convenience, focusing on the need assessment of the project, developers are using exploratory research method. Exploratory research made by conducting focus group interviews to get detail information. Developers used four data gathering techniques (tools), namely; oral questions, direct observation, document analysis and questionnaires (closed and open questionnaires) to understand current problems of bamboo processing activities and for the need of this machine. After the quantitative and qualitative data are gathered from those sources developersreached at conclusion to designed and manufactured bamboo processing machine as a solution to facilitate bamboo products. The findings indicate that, there is lack of bamboo processing machine and having high demand of it. In general, according to the newly designed and manufactured bamboo processing machine, it can perform manual splitting, grinding bamboo knots and sanding bamboo surfaces. Bamboo is a sustainable and environmental friendly material that has the potential to improve the global decline of natural resources. Bamboo is one of the popular flora in Southeast of Asia, it is also traditional plants that grow abundantly in Vietnamese villages from north to south. Its ability can replace some kinds of wood in decoration and household goods. Bamboo grow up rapidly and can be harvested within 3 to 5 years of planting, in the meanwhile the harvesting time of other hardwood trees must be from 8 to 10 years or longer. The inherent characteristics of bamboo is lighter than other wood materials and has a value in social and environmental benefits. Its advances in manufacturing technology have created high value products such as bamboo flooring and bamboo furniture that can substitute for wood flooring and wood furniture. According to the biology studies, the bamboo has the characteristics that can replace the natural wood, but the direction of development from the stage of cultivation to the stage of finished products has not been exploited thoroughly. The production of bamboo plywood will become a great potential for the bamboo plywood industry in Vietnam. Generally, the fabrication of bamboo plywood depends on the following processes such as cutting, grinding to powder or pulp, drying and pressing processes. In cutting and grinding processes, the trivial remains of bamboo after use, shoots can be chopped and grinded to powder that is dried and pressed into bamboo plywood by specialized machine similar to the production artificial wood particleboard (PB). The aim of this paper is a representation of a design, a computing the structure of a version of bamboo grinding machine that is sustainable, responds to technical requirements and protect of environment. The result of the design was applied for manufacture a typical bamboo machine in CAD-CAM workshop of DCSELAB in the framework of a project between DCSELAB and PhuAn Village Corporation that has evaluated with satisfaction the realistic proof of the design. The machine has been in the session of initial testing and exploitation.

Because when using skewers in a traditional/manual production method, the quality of the skewers produced is not good and the production capacity is also low. Meanwhile, the existing skewer making machine still has some drawbacks. So in this study, a bamboo cutting machine was designed to increase the production of skewers with innovations to cover the shortcomings of existing machines. In this study, the skewer making machine was designed to have a slicing section, a shavings section (making skewers), and a sharpening section. The skewers produced have a diameter between 2.5 mm to 3 mm and a length of 210 mm with a production capacity of skewers per hour.

Handicraft of bamboo weaving has been a tradition that has been inherited for a long time, by using bamboo strips to weave into shapes to make tools and appliances. The bamboo strips are from dividing the longitudinal bamboo trunks into thin strips. In which most farmers will make the strips by hand by using a big knife or sharp objects. As a result, it takes a long time to prepare the bamboo strips to be used in the weaving work. There is also a risk of accidents from the use of sharp objects, including the size of the bamboo strips that is not the same size. DEVELOPMENT AND OPTIMIZATION OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA BASED MODELS FOR BAMBOO SLIVER CUTTING BY USING HUMAN POWERED FLYWHEEL MOTORTJPRC Publication
This paper presents the development of the experimental data based mathematical models for cutting the slivers from bamboo by means of human powered flywheel motor. There were various dependent and independent variables involved in the process of cutting the bamboo sliver by human powered flywheel motor. Therefore, apart from formulation and development of the model, the optimization was done to find the best sets of the independent variable to achieve the responses as an output. The bamboo sliver cutting machine was designed, fabricated and based on the theory of experimentation, the experiment was performed and total 108 sets of readings were recorded. In this work, the responses of three response variables such as number of slivers, processing time and resistive torque were experimentally studied and the experimental data based models for these three response variables are optimized to get the best set of independent variables involved in the bamboo sliver cutting process.

Investigation Into Laminated Bamboo Fabrication by Small Industry for Product DevelopmentAmbar Mulyono

Commercial fabrication of laminated bamboo (LB) typically requires sophisticated technology and an abundant supply of energy for pressing. However, small enterprises (with low-technology resources) have found ways to make LB in small job lots. This paper explores how small LB-based enterprises fabricate their products and discusses how potential developments can be made with their limited available resources. A literature review is conducted and three small bamboo-related enterprises are examined to determine current product potentials and investigate the possibilities for new product design and development. The results show that small enterprises use low-level technology to solve problems in all steps of LB fabrication. Some stages in the fabrication sequence can be modified to improve design quality through optimizing the use of clamps for shaping and applying color variation into the products.
